DirectoryIndex

The DirectoryIndex is the file that appears first when you specify a Web site or directory without a file name.  For example, when a Website is displayed on your account, the DirectoryIndex page is index.html, followed by index.htm and default.htm. To change the order or add a different file name:
  1. Telnet or SSH into your account. See the Getting Started Guide for further instructions.
  2. Browse to the directory you want to change the DirectoryIndex for. If this is your main Web page, type the following at the UNIX shell prompt, then press
    cd www/htdocs
  1. After you are in the directory you want to change, edit the .htaccess file in pico, vi, or another text editor of your choice.
  2. Add the following line to the end of the .htaccess file, then press Enter:
    DirectoryIndex index.html index.htm index.shtml
Note: Replace file_name with the name of the file you want displayed first. You also can add additional directories by adding that directory and file name after file_name.
