VPS Getting Started Guide: Easy First Steps

The fundamentals necessary to creating a functional Internet presence with your new Virtual Private Server (VPS) This is an excellent resource for first time VPS users. VPS Administrators will also want to become acquainted with our online VPS Handbook.
  1. Check Your Domain Name Status

If you requested a domain name with your new Hosting account which we can register for you (such as a .com, .net, or .org domain name), you can check your domain name registration status with our convenient online form. If you already have a domain name registered that you would like to use with a new Virtual Server, but it is currently being hosted by another provider, then refer to our domain name transfer guidelines.
  2. Develop Your Web Site

Although we cannot do justice to the topic of building web sites in this small space we can offer some guidlines and references to other resources on our Help with HTML and Web Design page.
  3. Upload Content to Your Server

There are several methods to upload website content and other files to your VPS. Instructions for FTP clients like WS_FTP and Fetch, and for other methods like iManager and Windows File Sharing are presented here.
  4. Create E-mail and FTP User Accounts

Depending on the type of your Hosting Plan, you have the ability to setup e-mail aliases, e-mail POP accounts, and FTP user accounts. It's very easy to do by following our step-by-step instructions.
  5. Become an Expert Administrator

After you have completed your web site, uploaded the content to your VPS, created some e-mail/ftp accounts, we invite you to consider some further Virtual Server administration topics. Virtually everything you need to know about the VPS is included in the VPS Help and VPS Extensions Help sections of our web site. Topics covered include web server configuration, virtual subhost configuration, Virtual Server administration, the Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions, Java and Perl5, and much, much more.
